A new poll shows why Daniel Lurie says he believes he can be San Francisco ’s next mayor — and why he’s spending his own money to make it happen.

The poll was funded by the independent committee named Believe in SF, Lurie for Mayor 2024. Lurie’s campaign was quick to tout its findings. Ranked-choice voting lets voters rank candidates by preference. If no candidate wins a majority, the lowest-ranked candidates are eliminated, and their votes are redistributed, repeating through rounds of tallying votes based on ranked preference, until one candidate reaches 50%.

A poll commissioned by The San Francisco Chronicle in August placed Lurie in third in first-choice votes. Though Lurie had the highest share of second-choice votes, many would come from Farrell, whom he would need to edge out in later rounds of vote tabulation.
