Though Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda's warnings to Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back were warranted, he still made the right decision in leaving.
Luke Skywalker was right to ignore Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda’s warnings in The Empire Strikes Back. The Empire Strikes Back saw Luke training with Yoda on Dagobah, working to become a full-fledged Jedi Knight so that he may one day be strong enough to face Darth Vader on his own. Both Yoda and Obi-Wan taught Luke much about the Force, drawing from their own experience of being Jedi during the days of the Jedi Order.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As additional context from Star Wars: The Clone Wars later proved, neither Yoda nor Obi-Wan held all the answers.
Vader Still Wins If Luke Stays On Dagobah Had Luke listened to Obi-Wan and Yoda and stayed on Dagobah to continue his Jedi training, the Empire would have easily captured Leia. They would have delivered her to prison, and the Rebellion would have lost one of its most vital leaders. It’s likely that, had Leia been captured, the Empire would have tortured her for information about the Rebel Alliance before executing her for treason.
It's certainly true that Luke’s skills weren’t fully developed by the time he left Dagobah – and as his duel with Vader in The Empire Strikes Back proved, he wasn’t yet ready to fight him on his own, no matter how inherently powerful he may be. But had he ignored the Force’s warnings, had he left his friends to their own devices, he would have lost sight of that which made him such a great Jedi in the first place: his compassion.
Yoda & Obi-Wan Weren't Entirely Wrong Yoda and Obi-Wan weren’t entirely at fault for wanting Luke to stay on Dagobah, of course. They knew he wasn’t yet strong enough to face Vader in a duel, and they were worried that the galaxy’s greatest beacon of hope was walking into a trap. Luke eventually paid the price for rushing to face Vader, so all in all, Obi-Wan and Yoda’s caution was warranted.
