Race is marred by a fire in the pre-runner of two Monster Energy competitors, both now recovering.

Luke McMillin, of the dynastic McMillin family of desert racers, claimed his third overall win in the King Shocks SCORE San Felipe 250 this past weekend. 'This was classic San Felipe—just rough,' McMillin said.

'I couldn't even see the road. It was so rough, I'm just getting shattered. But man, it was fun.'McMillin drove a surprisingly problem-free race, considering the rugged terrain of a typical season-starting San Felipe. 'We just drove solid all day. No major issues. Little stuff that cost us seconds here and there, and it got a little frustrating with one flat tire. But the course was so rough and rocky and brutal that you know you are going to get one. I don't know if you could expect that, but just to have such a clean day is awesome. So I know Tavo is close behind us. So we'll see.'Vildósola was, indeed, close behind, but not close enough to win this time.'I thought we were going to beat him,' he said. 'But that's how races are. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. But look, if it's a second place, we are in an excellent position for the championship.'Third-place finisher Bryce Menzies had to overcome dust with determination to make the podium.'We started eighth,' Menzies said. 'We just kind of sat in Robby dust all the way to race mile 40. And then we got Robby there. We had a pretty good line in Motomi . And we actually got Lofton and Hustead both on the same line. And then from there, it was about a four-five-minute gap up to the next truck. So, we just started pushing really hard. About race mile 140, we actually were leading on time over everybody. And then from there, we started pushing.'But just when you think things are going well, they start going malo.'I started feeling like my foot was super slippery, like something was leaking. And all of a sudden, we lost brakes,' said Menzies. But you have to be adaptive to race in Baja, and Menzies adapted.'Luckily, underneath the dash, I could turn a handle. And I turned it to where I had rear-brake handle only. So, from race mile 170 to the finish, I had to drive with a rear-brake handle. But overall, it looks like we ended up third on the road. You got to do what you got to do. You got to manage the truck, manage the race. And we got three more races to go for the championship. And that's what we're shooting for. So, overall, good day. You know, it's a good start to the season.'In motorcycles, it was Tyler Lynn on his No. 1x Honda CRF450X who finished the 281.5-mile course first, giving Honda its 26th overall victory in the storied race. 'The race was really awesome for us,' Lynn said. 'We started third this morning, so we had to deal with some dust. We're not really so used to that. The last couple races last year we started in the lead. So this morning, yeah, we had to deal with some dust, but we got in the lead around race mile 50. And after that, we just kind of set sail.'The race was marred by a fire Tuesday in the pre-runner of two entrants from Monster Energy, Janey Lee and Kylie Marie Walton , who are also brand-ambassador Monster Energy Girls. The two racers were briefly trapped in their burning truck before escaping. They were flown to San Diego, where they are expected to undergo surgery for their injuries. They posted a photo from the hospital showing they were okay—smiling even—but heavily bandaged. The SCORE racing community has been supportive, they said, with numerous racers helping at the scene and the Herbst team flying them to the hospital.Next on the calendar is the BFGoodrich Tires Score Baja 500 June 3-7, starting and finishing on the other side of the peninsula in Ensenada.
