Luis Garcia's stellar outing, late offensive outburst lift Astros to series win over Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios pitches to Houston Astros Mauricio Dubon during the first inning of a MLB baseball game at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in Houston.Astros manager Dusty Baker calls it the “slow walk” this time of the season.
The Astros played it adroitly Wednesday night in earning their first home series win. They used a late outburst, a brilliant outing by previously struggling starter Luis Garcia, a big hit from Jake Meyers and a clutch appearance from reliever Bryan Abreu to prevail 8-1 in their last of six straight games at Minute Maid Park.
The Astros scored two runs in the second inning on a lone swing by Meyers, who entered the contest hitting .212 with 3 RBIs. Meyers belted a two-run double off the top of the fence in right-center field and in front of the Astros’ bullpen.
