Texas Tech product had the head of his driver come off on the 17th hole Saturday at the Texas Open, but he still hit a two-putt birdie.
Ludvig Åberg has been a professional golfer for about a year, and at the Texas Open on Saturday, he got a rookie lesson. During the third round of the Valero Texas Open, while teeing off at the 17th hole, Åberg’s head of his driver unexpectedly flew off. As Åberg watched in disbelief, his ball continued its trajectory, still traveling 301 yards and coming to rest just 11 feet from the hole. “It was odd, it was bizarre,” Åberg said.
Some golfers decide to head to Augusta, Ga., a week early to train for the Master, but being that Åberg is in his first professional year, he’s still figuring out what works for him. “If I just keep playing better and better the more I play,” Åberg said. “That was one of the main reasons why I want to play before my first major, I feel like that's the best for me. Hopefully, you know, I have a long career ahead of me.
