Lucasfilm's recent announcements reveal a shift in emphasis towards Star Wars movies, with four major projects in development. This move comes after the success of The Mandalorian and its spin-offs, indicating a renewed dedication to the cinematic franchise.

Lucasfilm has broken a significant record, proving that TV shows are no longer the company’s top priority for Star Wars. Since The Mandalorian premiered in 2019, Star Wars has mainly focused on developing its New Republic-era storytelling. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced that four Star Wars movies were officially in development, including The Mandalorian & Grogu, a Rey Skywalker movie, a Dawn of the Jedi movie, and another Mandalorian movie. Since then, another Star Wars trilogy has also been rumored to be in development. What does the future of Star Wars’ live-action TV output look like, though? The two shows released in 2024 – The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew – were filmed much earlier, and Andor season 2, set for release in April 2025, is a returning show, not a new one (it finished filming in February 2024
