A Denver jury found Lu Reh guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with a 2022 shooting that resulted in the death of Ma Kaing, a beloved East Colfax community member.

A Denver jury convicted Lu Reh of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder on February 6th for a July 2022 shooting incident. Prosecutors charged Reh and three other defendants in connection with the shooting at a park in the 1300 block of Xenia Street. A stray bullet from that shooting tragically killed 42-year-old Ma Kaing , who was unloading groceries in front of her apartment building.

Ma Kaing was a beloved member of the East Colfax community, known for her restaurant Taw Win, a Thai and Burmese eatery she opened in 2020 at 1120 Yosemite Street. She was also actively involved in her community, helping to establish the East Colfax Food Bank at Counterpath. Following her death, Taw Win temporarily closed but was reopened by her family several weeks later, continuing to serve the community. Two of the other defendants previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The fourth defendant's trial is scheduled for July.
