Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly made an interesting remark on potential rumors about drinking in the office.
LSU fired head coach Brian Kelly on October 26, following a 5-3 start to the season after the team entered the fall ranked as the No. 9 team in the country. The Tigers and the state of Louisiana appeared ready to fight Kelly's near $54 million buyout, but the program ultimatelyThe delay in sending Kelly the termination letter meant he got a late start in the coaching carousel, and was not able to find a job that would help offset the buyout.
Kelly claimed the Tigers are funding a $40 million roster for new head coach Lane Kiffin. Kelly also appeared to shed light on the nearly month delay to finalize his buyout while laughing about what LSU thinks he's doing with his time this offseason. Kelly said he hasn't been teeing off at any golf courses recently after he suffered a torn rotator cuff in LSU's 20-10 win over Florida on Sept. 13. He suggested people connected to LSU spread rumors that he drank in his office and spent too much time at the golf course. “Well, if you ask LSU, I was playing 350 rounds of golf all through the year and drinking in my office,” Kelly, via a transcription from On3. “The thing they didn’t know is I have a torn rotator cuff that I suffered in the Florida game on the sideline. "I got hit by an offensive and defensive lineman, and it tore my rotator cuff. So, I haven’t played much golf. I’ve been rehabbing, mostly.” Amid Kelly's dramatic dismissal, there were no publicly reported claims that the head coach drank in his office or that his love for golf was a cause for his firing.LSU gave Kiffin a seven-year, $91 million contract.View Editorial & AI Guidelines
