While the Tigers would love to hire Saban, it doesn’t appear the former Alabama head coach wants to return after retiring following the 2023 season. “Nick Saban and I have a standing conversation probably every two to three weeks,” Ausberry said. “We’re good friends, first of all. A person that I admire a lot. And coach Saban was joking. No way he’s coming back to football, okay? Miss Terry’s not gonna let him. “That’s not gonna happen. Let’s get that out of the way soon, because if he was and he was interested, I would go drive and pick him up right now and bring him back.” But Saban’s communication with Ausberry could have implications for who LSU hires. Moscona suggested that Saban is advising Kiffin about the LSU gig. Glenn Guilbeau of Tiger Rag is reporting that Saban is trying to convince Kiffin to take the LSU job. “Saban, who took LSU to its first national championship in football since 1958 in 2003 before winning six more at Alabama and retiring after the 2023 season, is trying to convince Kiffin that LSU is the best job for him and better than Florida, a source very close to LSU told Tiger Rag on Monday afternoon,” Guilbeau wrote. During an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Kiffin said he loves where he’s at in Oxford. Indeed, Kiffin has a chance to win a national championship with Ole Miss this season.
