) - China-based Kaishan Compressors is looking to expand its footprint in the US market starting with the expansion of its Loxley manufacturing center. There was a groundbreaking ceremony there Monday morning, April 22, 2024.
The multi-million-dollar addition will employ more than 30 new workers. When Kaishan Compressors first turned dirt nearly six years ago, the company was confident in its decision to set up shop in Loxley. This expansion confirms their intuition was right. Kaishan began operations in Loxley in October of 2019 and according to company officials, has captured nine percent of the US market since. Kaishan builds a huge variety of compressed air systems for industrial applications and with this expansion, will double the size of its manufacturing and warehouse facility.“Ninety-eight percent of all manufacturers use compressed air in their plants for…to power things in the plant,” said Kaishan Compressors USA CEO, Keith Schumacher. “Most machine tools, most air conditioning systems, pneumatic systems in plants, conveyer systems used compressed air.” The company currently has 50 employees. Once the new phase opens, 35 new employees will be added over a four-year period creating an additional $4.2 million in additional annual wages. Kaishan Compressor officials said the choice to base their operations in Loxley has been a good one. “For us, Loxley is a great location,” Schumacher said. “We have, you know it’s on the I-10 corridor. We have great, you know from a transportation standpoint, it’s a great location. That way, access to the docks, right is another benefit and then we also feel like we’ve got, you know access to the labor base right here in Baldwin County.” For a growing city like Loxley, having an available, skilled workforce has helped grow local industry. City leaders said this growth is important for Loxley and its residents to prosper. “The income that comes from here. The taxes and stuff where people are stopping and shopping at the local gas stations, you know…at what restaurants we have here and things. Reaching out into the community, those are really important things to have people stopping and shopping here,” explained Loxley mayor, Richard Teal. The expansion will include 60,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 5,000 square feet of office space.
