If Brock Lovett had gotten the Heart of the Ocean in Titanic, he probably wouldn't have been able to keep it, nor had Rose if she hadn't hidden it.
Rose sharing her story in Titanic was possible thanks to Brock Lovett and his mission to find the Heart of the Ocean in the remains of the Titanic, but even if Rose hadn’t tossed the necklace at the end and Lovett had finally gotten his hands on it, the diamond wouldn’t have stayed with him for long.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Titanic begins with treasure hunter Brock Lovett and his team visiting the Titanic wreckage as they looked for a rare, blue diamond known as the Heart of the Ocean, believed to have been one of the many objects that sank with the ship. Their search led them to Rose , now a 100-year-old woman, whose memories of the Titanic were still clear.
What Would Have Happened If Lovett Had Found The Diamond? The question of what would have happened if Lovett had found the diamond has been discussed for years, and a Reddit user explained that Lovett wouldn’t have been able to keep it. Cal would have surely made an insurance claim after realizing he no longer had the diamond and after not finding Rose, and he would have had to provide “proof of purchase” to verify that he was the owner.
Another Reddit user pointed out that Lloyd’s of London insured the Titanic and its passengers’ cargo, so the claim would be to them. The user explained that, despite the many claims that arose from the sinking of the Titanic, they paid out in full within 30 days, and because Cal would have stated that the diamond went down with the ship and not that he gave it to Rose, Lloyd’s wouldn’t have arrived to collect, and the entire ship would have been abandoned under maritime law.
