Love Island star dubs Joe Lycett 'vile' for appearing to shred £10k over Beckham-Qatar deal
Love Island 2020 alum Shaughna Phillips has branded comedian Joe Lycett "vile" for appearing to shred £10,000 in protest against David Beckham's £10m World Cup deal with host country Qatar – though it's now been revealed he didn't really destroy the cash.
A third wrote: "I don't understand the need to shred it, why not donate to those in need or a charity representing the community he is supporting?". Another remembered that Shaughna "did a paid advertisement for Shein despite the fact their workers are paid pennies and extremely overworked". The contest kicks off this weekend in Qatar – where homosexuality is still illegal and anyone found participating in same-sex, sexual activity can be punished with up to seven years in prison.
Joe tells viewers: "This is my final message to David Beckham. It's me - that p***k who shredded loads of money in a cost of living crisis. So, where were we? "I haven't quite told you the whole truth. Because the truth is the money that went into the shredder was real, but the money that came out was fake.
