LoveIslandAus host Sophie Monk discusses 'hilarious' series with 'ridiculous' islanders ahead of UK premiere
She started her career on the Australian series of Popstars and earned her place in girl group Bardot, who became the first act to ever debut at number one on both the singles and albums chart in their native.
The following year, she became the first celebrity to star as The Bachelorette. After attempting to find love for herself on TV, she began playing Cupid for others by becoming the host of Love Island Australia — which will premiere in the UK on 15 June. Also, you don’t feel sad for them, they’re hot and going on television. It’s just really fun to watch and just such an escape.I watched bits and pieces but I’ve got a very addictive nature. When I watched the Australian one, honestly, they had to kick me out of the control room. I just got so obsessed with the storyline, it is such a good show. I just lived and breathed it which I’ve never done with a TV show before.I mean, obviously they’re gorgeous, and the best thing is their confidence.
I think at that age anyway, everything is so heightened, but then to take your phone away and not having any clue what’s going on in the outside world and to just be focused on relationships and love makes it a very entertaining TV show.Oh my God, they are ridiculous. Looks wise, beautiful. It’s just funny how people react to that before they even know them. I think that’s why I love watching it too. But they’re not always necessarily the book matching the cover.
All of these people have the same interests; they’re very into the way they look, very into going to the gym and social media, so it kind of works. You’re going to find somebody very similar to you and that’s why it works. They do fall in love, because their interests are exactly the same. For me, I know that feeling of trying to remember you’re on camera, but you just forget, you always do.
