Some D.C. residents said the noise from a sonic boom—caused by a Pentagon flight in the area—was so loud that it shook their walls.
Residents of the Washington, D.C. area flocked to social media Sunday after a loud sonic boom rocked the region. “The loud boom that was heard across the DMV area was caused by an authorized DOD flight. This flight caused a sonic boom,” the Annapolis Office of Emergency Management tweeted. According to Reuters, some D.C.
residents said the noise shook their walls, while others as far away as Maryland and Virginia heard the noise, too. The D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management said that there’s “no threat at this time.” However, a Cessna plane did crash into southwest Virginia mountains just minutes after from the sonic boom was heard. It’s currently unknown whether these two incidents are related.
