FILE - Manager Lou Pinella of the Seattle Mariners looks on during the Mariners 6-5 victory over the New York Yankees in the American League playoff series at the Kingdome in Seattle. Washington. Lou Piniella, the iconic manager of the Seattle Mariners from 1993 until 2002, is among eight National Baseball Hall of Fame finalists of executives, managers, and other baseball contributors.

“Lou made an immediate impact on our franchise when he joined us in 1993, and it has been a lasting impact," said Mariners Chairman Emeritus John Ellis. “He was the right man at the right time to breathe life into an organization, change the culture, and, in the process, make MLB relevant in an entire region of the country."

Of the 16 managers ahead of Piniella on the all-time wins list, 12 are in the Baseball Hall of Fame and three managed during the 2023 season. Piniella guided his clubs to seven postseason appearances: four with Seattle, two with the Cubs, and one with the Reds. In 23 seasons as a big league skipper, Piniella received Manager of the Year votes in 14 seasons and won the award three times: 1995 and 2001 with Seattle, and 2008 with the Cubs.
