Craig and Karen Mitchell were on holiday in Scotland when they found out they'd scooped £1million.

A couple found out they'd scooped £1million on the National Lottery while on holiday in Scotland. Childhood sweethearts Craig and Karen Mitchell feared they could be the victims of a 'scam' when they got the call.

The Mirror reports Craig said: “Karen’s career means so much to her and while her work is incredibly rewarding, it’s also very traumatic and does take its toll. Karen added: “I was just walking up the stairs and he just said to me ‘what do you think of this?’ I was like it will be a tenner or a scam but just ring them anyway.

"We went downstairs and announced we had something to say, everyone was worried it was bad news so it was wonderful to instead tell them that we’d won the lottery! Their faces were a picture. "I used to say ‘when we win the millions’, not if, and now here we are. Admittedly, while I was always confident we’d win, it hasn’t made the reality any less exciting!”

"It’s certainly going to make that admin fee less of a pain!” The couple told how they rang their two sons to tell them the good news who made requests for a Canada Goose coat and a new golf club.
