The Los Angeles City Council voted to approve the new vaccine requirement, which is anticipated to be passed by the city’s mayor.
Under the ordinance, businesses will begin to check people’s vaccination status on November 4, and full enforcement by the city’s Department of Public Health and the Department of Building and Safety would begin on November 29.
People would be allowed to file for a religious or medical exemption and will also be allowed, as an alternative, to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within the last 72 hours to enter the businesses. Businesses can allow people to enter without showing proof of vaccination to pick up food orders or use the restroom.
Those who do not follow the rules could face warnings or fines up to $5,000, depending on how many offenses have been made.77.6%. That is the percentage of residents in Los Angeles County that have gotten at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as of September 30, according to the California Health Department’s
, which amounts to over 6.8 million residents vaccinated. 69% or over 6.1 million residents have also been fully vaccinated by that date. Other cities like New York City and Honolulu that require people to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination in order to enter certain indoor spaces have seen increases in Covid-19 vaccine doses given out after the requirements were announced.
