The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department resolved a temporary issue with its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system on Friday, January 3rd. Deputies were unable to access their patrol car computers and had to rely on manual methods to track and respond to calls for service. The 38-year-old CAD system is slated for replacement in a multi-year plan, with testing of a new system beginning next week.
, the Los Angeles Sheriff ’s Department performed a temporary fix to its computer-aided dispatch system, known as CAD, on Friday, Jan. 3.
The department became aware of the problem after a number of deputies reported not being able to log onto their patrol car computers, which the CAD system operates on, at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday. “The department has long struggled with outdated technology, and since taking office, the sheriff has stressed the critical importance of upgrading and enhancing our internal systems,” the statement said.
