Three Los Angeles school students took ecstasy pills laced with fentanyl and got sick, officials said. The pills were purchased online, LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said.

Officials have not disclosed the age of the students or if the drugs were taken on campus grounds. District Medical Director, Dr. Smita Malhotra, said the incident is part of a growing trend of contaminated drugs in Los Angeles County. Three teenage girls were hospitalized last week after overdosing on ecstasy pills laced with fentanyl at aOverdose deaths from fentanyl increased significantly from nearly 58,000 in 2020 to more than 71,000 deaths last year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
