Namir Malik Ali Greene is accused of stealing at least $15,360 over a three-and-a-half-week rampage.
A 23-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on suspicion of committing or trying to pull off dozens of armed robberies in recent weeks, as well as carjacking two drivers, according to a federal complaint filed Tuesday.
Namir Malik Ali Greene is accused of 31 armed robberies or attempts at gas stations and convenience stores in Orange and Los Angeles County from March 21 to April 15. He allegedly stole at least $15,360 total during the three-and-a-half-week robbery spree. On April 4, Greene stole at least $2,554 from eight gas station convenience stores in Hermosa Beach, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Pico Rivera, Whittier, Montebello, Santa Monica, and Los Angeles Mid-City neighborhood, according to an affidavit. Greene also allegedly carjacked a driver at a Fullerton gas station on March 21 and the driver of a Honda Accord in Los Angeles on April 15, prior to robbing an Anaheim gas station.
Authorities said they located the stolen Accord in Ontario on April 17 and initiated a traffic stop, which led to a pursuit after Greene attempted to escape. He eventually lost control of the car and hit a curb before fleeing on foot and was apprehended shortly after, according to a news release. Greene was identified based on eyewitness testimony, security camera footage, tattoos, jewelry, and photographs on his Instagram account. He is being charged under the Hobbs Act with interference with commerce by robbery. If convicted, Greene could face up to 20 years in prison.
