LA County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera reportedly resigned after leaked audio captured City Council President Nury Martinez and others making openly racist remarks.

Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera, center, and several elected officials held a news conference and rally to urge Latinos to vote no in the recall effort against Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sept. 13, 2021, in Los Angeles, CA.

"And now I apologize to all of you, Mike Bonin and his family, the affiliates, and community members, specifically those in the Black & Oaxacan community," he continued."There is no justification and no excuse for the vile remarks made in that room. Period. And I didn’t step up to stop them and I will have to bear the burden of that cross moving forward."

Council member Gil Cedillo speaks in support of the motion for the appointment of Heather Hutt as an interim council member for the 10th District. The motion failed to receive the votes required for a public hearing on Aug. 30, 2022.
