SIBU: A lorry driver has been sentenced to death by the High Court on Wednesday (March 11) after he was convicted of murdering an assistant registrar with the National Registration Department (JPN).
Judge Lim Hock Leng made the decision against Philip Uja, 44, after finding that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.
He said after considering all aspects and evidence, including evidence from an e-hailing driver, a telephone conversation between the accused and the victim, the victim's necklaces and an attempted murder by the accused, it was undeniable that the prosecutor has established a case against the accused under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Philip was charged with the murder of Nurnia Azalea between 8pm on August 1,2018, to 2.30pm on August 2,2018, at a rented room in Tiong Hua Road.Philip was represented by defence lawyer Rosli Gapor while the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Arif Aizuddin.
