Season 6 is one of the hardest to watch in Gilmore Girls because the characters go through so much emotional upheaval and are estranged from each other at different points. As always, Lorelai is hesitant to give Emily access to Rory and is suspicious of any gifts from either of her parents. Like a sixth sense, Lorelai can feel that Emily has been there and makes a sharp comment about her guilt-tripping and high-class taste. It's a quote that perfectly sums up how Lorelai views Emily most of the time, and how she feels about money being involved in her and Rory's life.

Season 5, Episode 13, "Wedding Bell Blues" Close Since it's such a pivotal episode, "Wedding Bell Blues" also includes another classic Lorelai jab at her mother for taking the vow renewal so seriously. Emily and Richard go through a period of separation, which is one of the saddest periods of Gilmore Girls.
