A Lorain woman has been indicted for arson after intentionally setting a fire that destroyed her home and her neighbor's. The fire occurred on October 20th, and luckily, no one was injured. Police were able to identify the cause of the fire through witness statements and doorbell camera footage.
A Lorain woman accused of intentionally setting a fire that destroyed her home and her neighbor’s was indicted by a Lorain County Grand Jury. Lorain Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Shawn Lloyd said they are lucky no one was injured when the two homes on Brownell Avenue were engulfed in flames on October 20. “The fire was raging pretty good,” said Lloyd.
“The one gentleman who lives in the basement of the primary house, he was coming home, saw smoke, so he ran into the house and grabbed whatever he could, he heard the front window blow out and got out of the house.” After talking to several witnesses and reviewing doorbell camera footage, Assistant Chief Lloyd said they were able to quickly tell this fire was set intentionally. “The one gentleman said I heard all the commotion, so I went right to my ring camera. Low and behold he had some pretty good pictures on his ring camera,” said Lloyd. ″It was from a distance, but you can tell what was going on.'He said after the two separated, he has not lived in the home since February. “I have people telling me I’m not homeless due to this because I was already out of here,” Kurta said. “I am just as homeless. I was waiting on for proceeds from this house to be able to provide for my minor children.”Lorain Fire Department’s All Call Charities was able to donate $500 to help Gonzalez out. Property records show Bodnar-Kurta and her husband bought their home in the 500 block of Brownell Ave. in 2021. According to court records, the couple separated earlier this year and her husband was awarded temporary custody of their children.4-year-old dies in Ashtabula County crash; Roads closed for hour
