Even as Metro Manila and other areas in the country will transition to a general community quarantine (GCQ) starting June 1, companies and establishments have been urged to continue with alternative work arrangements for their employees due to limited available public transportation.

“Those are still part of the equation, para basically to unload ‘yung pressure on the public transport ,” Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez explained during an interview over CNN Philippines on Friday, May 29.

“Lahat ng measures na ito will still be encouraged so that we can, more or less, manage the public in terms of transportation requirements,” he added. Lopez said these alternative work arrangements include work from home as well as having fewer work days but longer work hours. The secretary said employers can also arrange for transport services or housing arrangement for their workers.“‘Yung mga employers also gusto nila makapasok ‘yung mga workers nila especially kung operations type ,” Lopez said.

The DTI chief reminded the public that GCQ still limits movements despite the easing of restrictions.“The movement of people would have to be for an essential purpose, in other words non-leisure,” he added. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said train systems in Metro Manila will be 100 percent operational by June 1, but with limited passenger capacity.
