The former Liberal backbencher has questioned the wisdom of three former Liberal Victorian premiers donating to Opposition Leader John Pesutto’s legal defence.
Former Liberal backbencher Moira Deeming says the decision by three past Liberal premiers to help fund Opposition Leader John Pesutto’s legal battle with her looks like an attempt at intimidation by powerful men.Deeming on Saturday took aim at the three Liberal elders.The Victorian Liberal Party has refused to back Pesutto’s defence against Deeming’s legal claim against her former party leader, a position Kennett described as “unacceptable”.on Friday.
“I look up to them and admire them greatly. Each of them has been a great friend of mine over the years, and I’m very grateful for their support.”Pesutto tried to remove Deeming from the party room in March last year for her role in the controversial Let Women Speak rally, which was organised by British anti-trans rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull and gatecrashed by neo-Nazis.
“It came as a surprise that anyone would agree to back him in without having a look at the evidence that I have … why would you put your money behind a case when you haven’t seen both sides?” she said. They are not required to detail how much they have received, but must name the source of income, the address of the payer, and, if relevant, a description of services.
