A New York City man faces homicide by vehicle and related charges after causing a head-on crash while fleeing a traffic stop over an expired inspection, authorities said.

“Look what I did,” Abreu said after being placed in police custody immediately after the crash, according to the affidavit of probable cause to file criminal charges against him. Abreu “made voluntary statements that he was driving while his license was suspended and doesn’t know why he ran, and that he was scared,” state police said.
The officer lost sight of the Mercedes-Benz around the intersection with Green Pond Road then came upon the crash scene. Tire and roadway evidence showed the driver of the sedan lost control after driving over a bump in the road, crossed into the westbound lane and hit a westbound Kia Sportage head-on, according to police.
