Organizers said Atlantic City will have a scaled-down version of its St. Patrick's Day parade when it resumes for the first time since 2019.

“This is sort of a quickly put-together parade, to keep the tradition going,” former Egg Harbor Township Mayor Sonny McCullough said at a press conference Tuesday. The 1 p.m. parade will take place, as in prior years, on the boardwalk, despite ongoing structural concerns that prompted the cancellation of last year’s parade. It was also not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

McCullough, the new chairperson of the parade committee, contacted Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small two weeks ago and helped put together a last-minute plan. The upcoming parade will be held entirely on the boardwalk, as in prior years, officials said. “We support all cultures here in the great city of Atlantic City, and we support, more importantly, tradition,” Small said.

The Atlantic City boardwalk is among New Jersey’s best-known tourism draws. It is also the oldest boardwalk in the nation, dating to 1870. City officials have been seeking funding to address the structural concerns.
