Longtime GOP activist and Harris County GOP ballot security chairman Alan Vera died Thursday at the Texas Capitol as he prepared to testify on election-related bills.
He was president and CEO of The Quest Business Agency, a marketing firm he founded in 1984. His cause of death was not immediately known.
The group supported President Donald Trump’s unproven claims that millions of illegal votes were cast in the 2016 election. Trump’s own voter fraud commission was unable to substantiate those claims. On Thursday afternoon, Houston Republican state Sen. Paul Bettencourt offered a memorial resolution for Vera, who waa friend, on the Senate floor. He teased that he wasn't sure if the state affairs committee could meet"without Al Vera sitting on the right side of that podium."
