According to loved ones, Charles Starzynski was going to his regular game of pinochle and lunch with friends.
A longtime Capital Public Radio employee was shot and killed during an attempted robbery, Sacramento police said.
According to loved ones, Charles Starzynski, 70, was at Sutter Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday for his regular game of pinochle and lunch with friends. Around 12:30 p.m., police responded tooutside the club. When they arrived, Starzynski was already dead from at least one gunshot wound. Within a day, Desean Brasser Jr., 23, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Brasser has been charged with murder and first-degree robbery, both felonies. He is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail pending a court appearance Monday afternoon.in 1979 as its classical music announcer. Over the next two decades, he worked as a reporter, producer and eventually program director.
“As a CapRadio Board member, former Councilmember, & worried citizen, my heart breaks for Charles & his family,” former Sacramento Councilmember Steve Hansen wrote on . “Charles deserved so much better. This was a heinous act of violence. Gun violence has exploded this year & the city needs to do more to stop it.”
