Dobie girls nip Pasadena 1-0 despite dominating entire soccer match

Dobie Victor Hernandez, left, and a teammate work on keeping the ball from a Pasadena player during Friday night's district game won by Dobie 3-1.When one high school soccer team spends a good chunk of a match on their opponent’s side of the field, one would expect a lopsided score of something like 5-0.

The stadium’s tripleheader also saw the South Houston girls celebrate a rare win over Pasadena Memorial, winning 6-2 and the Dobie boys defeating Pasadena 3-1. But truly, Dobie did dominate. It just didn’t show on the scoreboard. There were Lady Longhorn threats all night long. Over the final 40 minutes, Dobie had a threat at the 39, 32 , 30, 22 and 17-minute mark plus three more threats after the score. There were other threats as well but those were the scariest ones as far as Pasadena was concerned.

Pasadena goalkeeper Deliah Boyd actually played a superior match, definitely worthy of an all-district vote because the final score could have easily been that 5-0 score were it not for her stops and blocks. The Dobie boys roared out to a 2-0 halftime lead and looked content with sitting on that advantage until Pasadena cut the deficit in half with 19:47 remaining on a textbook header off of a corner kick.
