“I knew I had to put pressure on those guys with a big early-round throw,” Crouser said.

Kovacs’ comeback throw knocked teammate Payton Otterdahl out of a bronze. Asked if it was special to watch his other teammate do what no one has ever done, Otterdahl said, “Yeah, for sure. Super special. Wish we could have made it a sweep.Crouser and Kovacs repeated as the Olympic gold and silver medalists. The champ called Kovacs’ silver-clinching throw “the most impressive” he’d ever seen him make, and he’s been competing against him since 2012.
Crouser’s not done at 31, either. Despite his injuries this spring, he stays in good shape for a guy who goes 6-7, 320 pounds. He wants to try to break his own record in Los Angeles.He tried to break his Olympic and world records Saturday but fouled and came up short, giving him “mixed feelings” about what he accomplished Saturday.
