As the fire rages around out-of-form Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne, batting coach Neil D’Costa has leapt to the defence of his long-time pupil. Labuschagne was all at sea during the shambolic Perth Test against India. He scored just two off 52 balls in Australia’s first innings was out for three in the second innings when he shouldered arms to a wildly swinging Jasprit Bumrah delivery and was dismissed lbw.

” D’Costa believes Labuschagne’s issues are between the ears. He also believes he’s been unlucky, and the decision to leave the ball in the second innings was not entirely wrong. “Marnus’ second innings ball 8.3 metres . What does that mean? Well it means on WA wickets that balls goes well over the stumps,” he told News Corp. “But not , it skidded and goodnight. millisecond .” D’Costa said the form slump was a mystery but common in Test cricket.
