The demolition of a restaurant that served Seattle's Belltown neighborhood for 40 years is now imminent.
The demolition of a restaurant that served Seattle 's Belltown neighborhood for 40 years is now imminent. Seattle is now taking this action after repeated pleas, complete with videos showing criminal activities and unsafe conditions from Belltown residents and business owners, that the city acknowledged.
“It is super important that we keep these buildings occupied because once they become vacant, unfortunately, this type of behavior can happen,” Seattle Fire Marshall Tim Moniz reported during a meeting of the Landmark Preservation Board on Wednesday.“I also believe that the owner has done the best they possibly can to secure the facility,” he added.
“We are working with the city to finalize what's needed for the demolition permit and expect the process will continue moving forward,” a spokesperson for Minglian told KOMO News. “This is something that never should have happened. It only became a public nuisance after it became a landmark under the stewardship of this current owner,” said Jeff Murdock. The current owner of the building, Minglian Realty LLC, has plans to build mixed-use apartments there.Video prompts neighbors, business owners to urge Seattle to take action on vacant building
Nathan Corbett, also with SDCI and speaking at the LPD meeting, said it is “the policy of the city of Seattle to prevent unnecessary demolition of landmarks.”
