Jessica Beauvais was found guilty last fall after prosecutors said her blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
NEW YORK -- A Long Island woman was sentenced to at least 22 years in prison Wednesday for the drunk driving crash that killed NYPD Det. Anastasios Tsakos back in 2021 on the Long Island Expressway.Jessica Beauvais was sentenced to 20 years for aggravated manslaughter and seven years to run concurrently for vehicular manslaughter and for leaving the scene of an accident.
Prosecutors said Beauvais was speeding while drunk and high on marijuana when she hit Tsakos as he directed traffic on the LIE in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Tsakos was a 14-year veteran of the NYPD and left behind a wife and two young children. 'I asked if my husband was alive, but they couldn't tell me. I instantly doubled over in pain. On the way to the hospital, I prayed to God to at least let him be alive.
