The ILWU honored those who were killed on the job on May 15th, 2024, at the statue of Harry Bridges in San Pedro. On Aug. 27, 2024, the Port of Long Beach and the Historical Society of Long Beach will open an exhibit titled “The Workers’ Harbor — How Labor Build and Shaped the Port of Long Beach.” The gathering in May commemorated the 90 year anniversary of the birth of the ILWU, on May 15th, 1934.

Bridges was an Australian-born American labour leader, president of the San Francisco based International Longshoremens and Warehousemens Union from 1937 to 1977. The exhibit in downtown Long Beach will be open from Aug 27 through Nov. 15 from 7:30 a.m . to 4:30 p.m. in the Port of Long Beach Administration Building Lobby, 415 W. Ocean Blvd.
