London's mayor says under Labour plans, suburban rail routes could be brought under TfL control.
Commuter rail services in the capital currently managed by private companies could come under Transport for London's control, Sadiq Khan has said.Labour pledged it would renationalise nearly all passenger rail services in England
Mr Khan said: "One of the things that was confirmed from the meeting this morning is once those franchises end and are brought into , they will be talking to mayors like me about which of those railways we can take over. It would not be the first time suburban rail services came under the direct control of TfL and a London mayor.Mr Khan said that while the end of the franchises remains "some years away", he would lobby the government for the resources to take them on once it happens.
During the election campaign, then-Conservative transport secretary Mark Harper claimed Labour's renationalisation plans were unfunded.On broader plans for devolution, Mr Khan called the new Labour government's pitch to the mayors "transformative".
