An 'isolated incident' was contained within the Vineland hospital, police said.
Police were on the scene at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland on Saturday following reports of an active shooter that authorities later called simply “an isolated incident.”
Officers from the Vineland Police Department arrived at the West Sherman Avenue hospital “within minutes” of the reports but found there was not an active shooter, the department said in a statement released just before 11 a.m. Saturday. Although a shooter was not found to be at large, “there was an isolated incident that was contained within the hospital,” police said., the Vineland Police Department said there was no present danger to patients, staff or visitors at the Vineland hospital.
“This incident is under investigation at this time by members of the Vineland Police Department Criminal Division. Inspira was locked downand as of this time the lockdown has been lifted despite some police activity at the scene,” authorities said in a summary of the incident. A spokesperson with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said Saturday at noon that additional information regarding the incident was not available. Local authorities and spokespeople with Inspira Medical Center could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday afternoon.
