The scouts earned the award after a great performance in the on-the-water activities and community service under the leadership of Skipper Shawn Sawyer and Boatswains Franky Johns and Erik Sutton.
Every month, the scouts have a 36-hour sail where they camp on a ship and are taught seamanship, navigation and leadership skills.KENS 5 has brought numerous firsts to South Texas television, including being the first local station with a helicopter, the first with its own Doppler radar and the first to air a local morning news program.
