Irondequoit, N.Y. — Protesters gathered Thursday in the Rochester area as demonstrations took place nationwide in the wake of the deadly shooting in Minneapolis involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.More than 100 people affiliated with 50501, a national grassroots movement, outside of the Rochester Border Patrol Station on Pattonwood Drive in Irondequoit. The group claims the footage of the killing of 37-year-old Renee Good "confirms the shooting was a murder" and refute the Department of Homeland Security's claims the officer was "acting in self-defense." The demanding that the ICE agent involved be prosecuted for murder. Signs denouncing the deadly shooting were also placed on the Colvin Street bridge above Interstate 490 westbound. "We're trying to raise awareness, in case anyone isn't already aware of the fact that a citizen was murdered in Minneapolis yesterday," one protester said. "The ICE agents set the situation up, and then the woman paid the ultimate price. And it's scary when this is done in the name of the federal government. We have to stand up and say, 'This is not okay. This is not who we are.'"Rochester Mayor Malik Evans released a statement condemning the shooting, saying "it is yet another disastrous example of the dangerous chaos being sown by the federal government across U.S. cities every day." My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim of this shooting and to the entire community of Minneapolis," Evans' statement continued.
