Jeremy Cooney, Monday, Nov. 25, 2024. The organization is working to develop a centralized support network of similar programs across the state that would help young people affected by cancer receive specialized care. "There are numerous barriers which need to be overcome, including treating aggressive cancers, being caught between two health systems — a children's hospital and an adult hospital — lack of health insurance, lack of family and social support, mental health concerns, issues related to future fertility and many others," said Dr. Jeffrey Andolina, pediatric oncologist at Golisano Children's Hospital. The three-year initiative is estimated to cost around $250,000. The $10,000 announced Monday is intended to "help get the project off the ground in 2025," according to 13thirty, with hopes of receiving further support from the state.
