As flames broke out inside Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City Wednesday night, local officials were suddenly faced with a worst-case scenario — evacuating a full hospital in the middle of the night. They now say the rapid response and overwhelming support from first responders across the region made the difference between chaos and control.
"Last night’s fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City was a frightening experience for patients, families, and staff members, especially during bitterly cold temperatures. My heart is with every patient who had to be evacuated and with their loved ones who endured a long night of uncertainty. We’re all deeply grateful to the first responders and the Lehigh Valley Hospital staff, whose quick thinking, professionalism, and compassion ensured that dozens of patients were moved safely and with dignity. I’d also like to commend every local hospital worker who sprang into action and immediately stood ready to assist, including Geisinger Community Medical Center and Regional Hospital employees here in Scranton. Doctors, nurses, and support staff did not hesitate to open their doors, clear beds, and prepare teams to receive patients in the middle of the night. When faced with an emergency, their focus was simple and shared: taking in patients and caring for them when they needed it most. I am proud to be mayor of a city that shows up for its neighbors and proves, time and again, that caring for one another is not just a value here, it’s who we are.""I can't say enough about emergency services, especially here in Lackawanna County, the volunteer firemen, the volunteer ambulance personnel, the 911 dispatchers, the local police departments, and actually the state police came out in full force to assist with evacuations last night at 1 point we turned around and myself and the 91 director Al Carney, we believe we counted almost 30 state troopers that just showed app to assist and help the community."We are relieved that every patient and staff member at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City has been safely evacuated, accounted for, and relocated. Deep gratitude goes to the first responders and hospital teams whose swift, professional actions ensured the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and stand ready to provide support where needed."I was on site last night at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Dickson City following the fire and witnessed firsthand the extraordinary professionalism and coordination of our emergency response teams. I want to extend my sincere thanks to the hospital staff, our local EMS providers and firefighters, Dickson City municipal officials and public works teams, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and the Governor’s Office for their swift action and collaboration. Because of this collective effort, patients were safely evacuated and lives were protected, reflecting the very best of our community coming together when it mattered most."“Last night’s fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City could have been a tragic situation, and we are all thankful that every patient was safely evacuated and that no injuries have been reported. The safe relocation of dozens of patients under difficult conditions is a testament to the training, coordination, and commitment of the first responders, hospital staff, and emergency management teams who were on scene. I appreciate the firefighters, EMS, law enforcement officers, and health care workers who acted quickly and professionally to keep people safe. My thoughts are with the patients who were displaced, their families, and the hospital employees who worked through a long and stressful night. Our region is fortunate to have people who step up for their neighbors in moments like this and save lives.”“Our thoughts are with the patients, community members, and our colleagues impacted by the Feb. 4 fire at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Dickson City,” said Brian Ebersole, senior vice president of strategic enterprise and ecosystem development at The Wright Centers for Community Health and Graduate Medical Education. “As a proud community partner of Lehigh Valley Health Network, The Wright Center has been in communication with them to offer the resources of our community health centers throughout Northeast Pennsylvania to support the continuation of ambulatory care while recovery and rebuilding efforts unfold. Together, our shared focus is on ensuring patients continue to have access to the care they need close to home.”A nonprofit organization, "Leaving MAGA," is making headlines with its controversial billboards urging the public to reconsider their support for Trump.VIDEO | Patients evacuated after fire erupts at Lehigh Valley Hospital A fire at the Lehigh Valley Hospital forced staff and police to evacuate all patients Wednesday night, according to state and local officials.WATCH | Man lies in road, steals car from good Samaritan who stopped to help: police A Carlisle man is accused of lying down in the road and then stealing the vehicle of someone who stopped to help him.
