Bill Perkins Chelsea Gieselmann has become a familiar face on the local food scene, whether on social media or at the Poplar Head Farmers Market, where she can occasionally be found wielding a spatula over a sizzling grill. But her infectious personality and culinary creations could soon spread far and wide after her appearance on a popular food channel.
Late last year, blogger and home chef Gieselmann traveled to New York City for what she thought would be an audition for a new show on The Food Network. When she arrived, show host Eddie Jackson admitted a ruse – there was no audition; Gieselmann would be competing against Iron Chef Alex Guarneschelli for an episode of “Outchef’d,” which pits home cooks against professionals in a head-to-head challenge using whatever ingredients are revealed from beneath the cloche.
The Wicksburg-based Gieselmann’s program – Season 3, Episode 12 – aired Thursday, and will be rebroadcast. We won’t spoil the conclusion, but Gieselmann clearly charmed Guarneschelli, Jackson, and the judges and crew, and left with a coveted Food Network apron, priceless memories, and a lot of, um, cabbage.
