One pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. That’s the message from Bloodworks Northwest’ as we currently have a dangerously low blood supply.
“Blood is still the number one medical procedure, blood transfusion. One happens every 2 seconds in the United States,” said Juan Cotto, of 'Bloodworks Northwest'. We are told that two of the three regional blood banks serving our state are dealing with a severe blood shortage because of the floods back in December and a slowdown in donations.
“I try to give it every other week or whatever I can give platelets, and that’s every week,” said James Barron as he recently donated blood.“I started donating when I was 16 because it was the first thing that I learned about that could actually help people and have an impact on their lives,” said blood donor Jaedyn Fedd.Nearly 23,000 must be filled by Valentine’s Day to stabilize the blood supply.
