Charles Longshore selected as Alabama Assistant Principal of the Year 2024.
Charles Longshore, assistant principal at Dothan Preparatory Academy, was named the Alabama Assistant Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals . Longshore represented Alabama in the 2024 National Association of Secondary School Principals National Assistant Principal of the Year selection process.
“It was the most amazing professional experience of my career,” said Longshore. “I gained some new perspectives, but I also learned that we experience the same challenges as most schools across the country.” Across the four days of the conference, he had conversations with many outstanding educators and NASSP board members. Longshore shared that the practices in place at DPA and across DCS are on track or better than, most schools that also produced state winners. He left feeling very appreciated, but also inspired to excel as an administrator.
Longshore’s commitment to advancing his professional skills is evident in his successful mentorship of new teachers in classroom management strategies, which has contributed to an impressive retention rate. His innovative approach, including the introduction of collaborative planning and assessments in the science department, has bolstered teaching methods and enriched student learning experiences.
