In a letter to parents, Ladera Elementary Principal Laura Davila said, “Our school marshal discovered a 22-caliber rifle magazine containing bullets in a school restroom.” A magazine is a device that holds ammunition and feeds it into a firearm's chamber. It uses a spring-loaded follower to push bullets upward, making them ready to be fired. Magazines can be either a detachable unit, like a box that you insert into the gun, or internal, built directly into the firearm.An investigation quickly identified the student responsible for leaving the magazine in the restroom. The student then admitted to bringing it to school. No firearm or weapon was found, and the school was able to confirm that the student does not have access to any firearms at home. No threats were made toward students or staff.“We ask families to remind their children that weapons, ammunition, and prohibited items of any kind are never permitted on school grounds.
