Power utility Eskom has announced in a tweet that load shedding will move from stage 4 to stage 3 at 14:00 on Friday.
This comes after several days of Stage 4 load shedding in the country. Eskom said a detailed statement will be released later on Friday.
The latest load shedding was triggered by breakdowns this week at a score of generating units, including at Koeberg nuclear plant in Cape Town. "The pump fault on Koeberg Unit 1 is being fixed, and it is envisaged that the unit will be back in service at the weekend. In the meantime, we continue utilising emergency generation reserves, including diesel, to supplement supply," Eskom said.
Eskom's Koeberg nuclear power plant outside Cape Town will return to full service on Sunday after a fault exacerbated load-shedding this week. In a statement released on Thursday night, Unit 1 at South Africa's only nuclear power plant was taken offline by operators on Tuesday after its cooling capability was compromised by a faulty pump.
