Lloyd Price, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, died on May 3 at age 88.

Price was known as an amiable presence, so much so that his nickname became “Mr. Personality” . However, he was vocal about racism in America. He posted during last year’s Black Lives Matter protests that he was “seething”: “I’ve always had a smile on my face as I’ve gone through life ... I’ve always done my best to please. But underneath my affable exterior is a man who is seething.”.” Its chapters include titles such as “I’m a N— ” and “No Friends in the Banks for Blacks.

RIP Lloyd Price. Very important part of Rock history. He was BEFORE Little Richard! Lawdy Miss Clawdy of 1952 has a legit claim as the first Rock hit. . Had the pleasure of hangin with him on the “Oldies Circuit” in ‘73. Righteous cat. Enormous talent.
