U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett said Biden’s debate performance made it too risky to continue his reelection campaign.
“Our overriding consideration must be who has the best hope of saving our democracy from an authoritarian takeover by a criminal and his gang,” Doggett said in a statement that referred to former President Donald Trump, convicted in May on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, as a “criminal.
Doggett, 77, credited the president’s devotion to public service and his leadership steering the country through a pandemic.
