Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., a bitter critic of former President Donald Trump who lost her congressional seat after participating in the House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, said she is not ruling out a run for the White House in 2024.
During an appearance Sunday on CNN's State of the Nation, Cheney, 57, said "I'm going to spend the next year, between now and the election, certainly helping to elect serious people , helping to elect sane people to Congress."
Republican opposition to Cheney's role as vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee and for voting to impeach Trump the second time, led to her overwhelming loss in the 2022 Republican primary to Harriet Hageman, who won with 66.3% of the vote to Cheney's 28.9%. Hageman, backed by Trump, went on to easily win the House seat in the general election.
"We're going to see what happens," she said. 'We're going to see how things unfold. I think Donald Trump is the single most dangerous threat we face. I would imagine that there will be a number of other candidates in the race that I think …""I think that we could well find ourselves in a situation, given what we know the Trump folks are doing, in terms of attempting to question the results of the election," she said.
